About Dr. Williams-Skinner
Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner, CEO and co-founder of Skinner Leadership Institute, is a trusted advisor, leading public policy strategist, faith and community leader, author, lecturer, educator, executive coach, and mentor. She and her late husband, Reverend Tom Skinner, founded the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Prayer Breakfast that annually attracts more than 3,000 leaders from across the nation.
For over 25 years, Dr. Williams-Skinner has been on the front lines as part of a movement for justice, driven by and rooted in faith. She regularly works with interfaith leaders to build bridges between faith communities on issues that include criminal justice reform, social and economic equality, and voter protections, helping to create a consensus on how the United States can be fair and equitable for everyone. Dr. Williams-Skinner is also a co-convener of the National African American Clergy Network (NAACN). The NAACN provides collective wisdom to affirm the public good and civic engagement by advising on policies that uplift rather than oppress. It also provides tools and training to equip pastors across the nation to promote free and fair elections.
Dr. Williams-Skinner regularly prays for and with Congressional leaders and sends daily scripture to many of them. She is co-founder of the Masters Series for Distinguished Leaders, a program that helps millennial leaders move to the next levels of their lives and careers. Dr. Williams-Skinner also co-founded the Masters Series for Distinguished Clergy that supplies pastors with advocacy and media training, teaching them how to voice their values in the public arena.
Dr. Williams-Skinner has authored a book on building personal spiritual power, “I Prayed, Now What?” and a companion Discussion Guide, perfectly suited for personal and group Bible studies. She was recently inducted into the Washington DC Hall of Fame that recognizes District of Columbia residents who have made tremendous contributions to the development of the city. Dr. Williams-Skinner holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Francisco State University and a Master of Social Work Degree and a law degree from UCLA. She also has a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, DC.
