A Message for the New Year: Your Life Matters to God

Updated: Jan 10, 2023

January 2023 |

Beloved, we live in a world that values people based on high positions, possessions, and access to power. As we begin a new year, isn’t it comforting to know that God values each of us and that our lives matter to Him regardless of our station in life. In a year that was marked by escalating mass murders, racial strife, hate speech, and rising COVID rates, let me encourage you to pause from the busyness of your life and consider how precious you are to the ONE who created you and can keep you from falling and failing. My friends, there will always be voices out there trying to remind you of who they believe you should be based on their biased perception. But I encourage you to draw from the love of God and take the time to find your worth through His Word.

At this time of the year, it is common for us to take stock of our lives and consider ways to be a better person and live a better life, but it is also a tough time for many who have lost loved ones, have broken relationships, or suffer from loneliness and financial despair.

So, let me encourage you with this thought. In the coming year, think less about how others see you and more about how the One who created you sees you. Think less about what is not working and pray more for God to give you divine strategies that will guide you to a healthier life and lifestyle. Here are a few tips for you to walk in the power and purpose God has for someone as highly valued as you.

  1. Check out Genesis 1:27, which says you are created in the image of God with high value, worth, and dignity.

  2. Read and reflect on Psalms 8:5, which says you are created a little lower than the heavenly beings and worthy of praise and honor.

Start your year rehearsing these two powerful truths about yourself and the amazing ways that God

sees you. Type them out and place them on your mirror and recite them daily until it wraps around your heart. Do not let the world or others around you define who you are. Walk daily in the beauty in which you were created. Know for sure that your life matters to God who highly values you just as you are, even as you work to become more like God in loving others and spreading that love to those in great need.
